Maitland Gas Field Appraisal (WA-33R) PPP 10%
The joint venture Operator, Apache, has completed an assessment of the Maitland project after incorporation of the
results from the 2007 drilling campaign. While the technical challenges of drilling
and producing in the Maitland field are in the process of being resolved, the Maitland-2 core data and
Maitland-3H test results have resulted in some reserves uncertainty. The Operator is now working on options
to reduce that reserves uncertainty to a level that would allow a development to proceed, including the possibility
of further appraisal drilling and flow testing.
The Maitland gas field was discovered in August 1992 with the drilling of Maitland-1. The first appraisal well, Maitland North-1,
was drilled in January 1996 and confirmed the general size and quality of the field. Following a major review of available seismic
and well data, Maitland-2 and Maitland-3H were drilled in August/September 2007. Maitland-2 confirmed the existence of a
23m gross gas column and a sidetrack was used to obtain core in the target reservoir.
Maitland-3H was then drilled as a 500m horizontal well and tested at 6 million cubic feet per day constrained by sand production.
